I've been in Vietnam for one year! I seriously can't believe how quickly this time has passed. I look back on events like the 4th of July party at the American club and it seems like only a few months ago.
I have to admit, that with the departure of the majority of the really good friends I made here (the last of whom was Ben, who left a week ago) I really haven't had feelings of regret or sadness for leaving. However, this evening when I told a class of mine that I have had for 3 1/2 weeks that next week will be my last with them I did feel a tinge heavy-hearted.
It's not that I don't like Hanoi even though there are a plethora of things that annoy me about the place (i.e. traffic, pollution, inane laws, bad weather, etc...), I'm just ready to move on. If you've been reading my blog for awhile now I think that it's quite obvious that what I will miss most will be the people who I have met during my time in Vietnam...and maybe the phở.
My best friend, Noelice, will be arriving in a week and we will fly to Da Nang and hang out in Hoi An for a few days. Then after she leaves, my brother, Brian, will arrive and we will fly to Nha Trang, then Ho Chi Minh City, then off to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and Ankgor Wat. Once he leaves I'm off to my own devices in Thailand.
I'm just itching to get started!
